Punjab Congress crisis: After Priyanka, Navjot Singh Sidhu meets Rahul Gandhi.

Punjab Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu Wednesday met party leader Rahul Gandhi at his residence in Delhi. He also met Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra earlier in the day.

Sources close to Sidhu said the meeting with Priyanka lasted three hours. The sources also said Priyanka left in the middle of the meeting to meet Rahul briefly. “We do not know what discussions have taken place. He has been inside for three hours, since the morning. We just saw Priyanka leaving and coming back,” the source said.

The meeting between the Punjab politician and Rahul Gandhi comes a day after the latter said he had no meeting scheduled with Sidhu.

Sidhu’s team had on Monday told the media he would be meeting Rahul and Priyanka on Tuesday. He had left his Patiala residence on Tuesday morning. However, no meeting took place. Rahul told the media Tuesday there was “no meeting with Sidhu”.

Sidhu’s meeting with the Gandhis is being considered significant in Congress circles, as the party high command is working to resolve a crisis in the Punjab unit. The meetings are believed to have a bearing on Sidhu’s fate in the party.

Sidhu has raised a banner of revolt against the Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, and has been hitting out at him on Twitter.
